AI usage & limits

Speudio is straight with you about what uses your AI. Every plan comes with an amount of AI included, and plans differ as simple multipliers: Solo 1× · Pro 2× · Business 10× (our biggest). The app shows a bar with the percentageyou have used so far, and it starts fresh on a fixed 30-day cycle: exactly 30 days after it last started, with that date shown next to the bar. There are no overage bills, ever. Here is what uses it, and what does not.

Upgrading to a bigger plan also starts the cycle fresh, as soon as the upgrade applies. The allowance you bought is the allowance you get, so AI you used on the smaller plan is never charged against it. Downgrading does not restart the cycle: whatever you used stays used.

The bar shows a percentage rather than a number of questions on purpose. One question that reads four long threads takes many times the work of one answered from a single line, so any "questions left" figure would be wrong for almost everybody, and wrong in the direction that looks like we cheated you. A percentage is abstract, but it is never false.

You get a heads-up before it runs out. At 80% the notification bell tells you, and it tells you again if you use it all, so the AI never goes quiet on you without a word. The first one names the share you have used. It can read a little ahead of the bar, because it goes on whichever part of your allowance fills first and it counts work still under way. The second carries no number: it says the AI is used up until the cycle starts fresh.

If you do run out before that date, the chat tells you so and, when a higher plan is available, offers a quiet link to move up; there is never a surprise charge. The AI reading that happens in the background stops too, so "Needs your reply" on Home will say it has stopped checking rather than show you an empty list. The chat's starter questions stop refreshing and photo descriptions stay in their original English; both say so rather than changing without explanation. Your mail still arrives and search still works.

New mail uses it too: as messages arrive or get imported, Speudio reads each one so the assistant can answer about it later. Deleting an inbox and importing it again means Speudio reads all of it from scratch, at the same cost. If your AI runs out, that reading pauses until the cycle starts fresh (your mail still arrives, and you can still search it by word) and the notification bell lets you know.

What uses your AI

Each of these uses some of it:

  • An answer from the contact AI chat: one question to the assistant on a contact's page.
  • An answer from the Iris assistant: the cross-inbox "Ask across all your contacts" box.
  • "Analyze this contact": the one-click contact summary.
  • Draft a reply: one suggested reply on a conversation, when you press Write the draft. Opening it and picking options costs nothing, unless you ticked Write the draft at once next time. Drafting it again with different options costs another one.
  • Auto-filling a contact field with AI (e.g. suggesting a description).
  • Meaning-based (semantic) search: matching a paraphrase rather than the words themselves happens inside an AI answer, so it draws on your AI. Plain ⌘ K search does not.

How much each one uses depends on how much the assistant has to read to answer it. A quick question about one recent email barely moves the bar. One that spans many contacts at once, like comparing every client, makes the assistant read across much more of your mailbox and uses noticeably more. Iris tells you when a question is that broad, with a short note above the answer.

What does NOT use your AI

  • Searching your emails, contacts and files with ⌘ K is free and unlimited. It matches the words you type.
  • Reading emails, opening attachments, browsing contacts.
  • Anything that is not an explicit AI answer.

Attaching files to a question

In both AI chats (the per-contact Mnemo chat and the global Iris assistant) you can attach one or more files to your message before sending. The AI reads the attached documents and images on that turn and keeps them in mind for follow-up questions in the same conversation.

For a photo, the close look at the actual picture happens on the turn you attach it and for the next couple of questions, so ask what you want to know about it while you are still on the subject. After that the AI works from the photo’s description instead of looking again, and the photo stays part of the conversation either way. Attaching it again brings back the close look.

Two ways to attach: upload a file from your device (or drag-drop it onto the chat), or pick a file you already have stored, either from the file picker or via the Attach to Mnemo / Attach to Iris action on any file in a contact's Files tab.

In the picker each file carries an icon for its type, and you can tick several at once; it stays open as you add them, so press Done when finished. Attached images show as small thumbnails you can click to preview, and when you attach more than one file the AI reads and comments on every one, not just the first.

Per-plan limit on files per message: Solo 5 · Pro 10 · Business 20. Maximum 25 MB per file (60 MB on Business).

Reading attached images (the AI looking closely at the actual pixels of an attached photo to answer a visual question like "what does this invoice say?") is part of photo reading, which every plan includes. It is not taken from the photo allowance that Image search sets out: that allowance counts the photos read in the background, and it running out does not stop the AI looking at a photo you attach. Up to five attached images are read on a turn.

Attaching documents costs the same as a plain text question. Attaching an image the AI has to look at costs more than a text question does, because looking at the pixels is a second piece of work on top of answering you. It comes out of the same AI included with your plan, so you see it in the same bar.

Reading photos is counted separately

So you can search your photos by what is in them, Speudio reads your images in the background. That has its own separate count of photos, which is what Image search sets out. The count is separate, the AI is not: the work of reading them comes out of the same AI included with your plan, so a mailbox full of photos does move the bar. How far it has got shows in the account menu (bottom-left) → Settings → This mailbox.

How your chats get their names

Every chat in the chats list gets a name by itself, so you can find the one you want without opening them all. It happens in two steps. The moment you send your first question, the chat takes its name from that question, cut at a whole word. A second or two later, once the answer is there, the assistant reads the two of them and replaces it with a short name for what the conversation is actually about, in the language you wrote in.

Naming a chat costs a tiny fraction of what one answer costs, and it happens once per chat, never again. If your AI has run out, the chat simply keeps the name taken from your question. Rename any chat yourself with the pencil icon next to it, and nothing will ever write over the name you chose.

The safety limit

There is also an internal safety limit that stops runaway or abnormal usage. It never bills you anything and a normal user never comes close to it. If you ever hit it, the assistant pauses and we ask you to get in touch so we can raise it.

You can check how much of your AI you have used at any time in the account menu (bottom-left) → Plan & usage, or by hovering your plan chip. You can also simply ask the assistant — say "how much of my AI have I used?" and it answers from the same figure, in whatever language you asked in.

Both assistants can answer about your account generally, not just the AI bar: which plan you are on and when it ends or renews, how much storage and how many emails you have left, how many mailboxes you can connect, how many photos have been read, and what your plan includes. They read the same numbers this page and Plan & usage show, only about you and nobody else. Sometimes there is genuinely no date to give: a plan we set up for you by hand may have no end date on it. Then they say so rather than make one up.
