Notifications
The bell in the top bar keeps you posted on anything worth knowing about your account. A red dot means you have unread items; open the bell to read them, mark them read, or dismiss them. Notifications also pop up live the moment they happen, no refresh needed.
Quick confirmations ("Saved", a sync result, a failed action) are separate from the bell: they appear as small cards in the left sidebar, in the same spot where background work shows its progress (on a phone they slide up in a slim banner above the bottom menu). When a message is about a task whose progress card is already showing, it plays on that card instead of adding another one. Confirmations tidy themselves away after a few seconds; errors stay until you dismiss them. If a message is too long to fit on its card, click it to read the whole thing in a pop-up.
Those cards linger a little longer before they clear, and anything still running, or waiting on you, does not clear at all. When several land at once the newest sit on top and a +N more button opens the rest; if the pile outgrows its space it scrolls on its own. To read a message again after it has gone, open the bell and choose Message history at the bottom of its panel (the same on a phone). It keeps your recent messages, now saved to your account so they are still there after you reload or sign in again. Some of them carry a quick link, for example to open your email accounts or view the plans. The bell keeps the account news.
The panel has All and Unread tabs, and things that need action from you (a failed sync, a paused mailbox, a payment problem) stand out in amber, while informational notices stay calm. Repeated events about the same thing fold into a single entry with a small ×N count instead of piling up; click it to expand and see each one on its own line. Notices about different mailboxes never fold together, so a count always refers to one mailbox. Anything about a specific mailbox carries a small tag naming it, so with several mailboxes connected you can tell at a glance which one a notice is about. Hovering a notification reveals quick actions: mark it read or unread, or dismiss it. Read notifications tidy themselves away automatically after about six weeks.
What you might see
- Welcome: a short hello when your account is first set up.
- Import complete: your contact import has finished and your conversations are ready. An import that found no new mail stays out of the bell. The import screen tells you everything was already up to date, and there is nothing new to go and look at.
- Storage full: your plan has hit its storage limit, so new mail and new files stop being saved until you free space or upgrade.
- Your plan is full: Speudio is holding all the email your plan has room for, so new mail is not being added until you make room or move up. Everything already here stays. You also see this after a downgrade that leaves you above the new limit, with how far over you are.
- AI budget warning: you're approaching this month's AI safety limit.
- AI limit reached: the assistant has paused for the month because a usage limit was reached.
- Sync / reconnect failed: Speudio couldn't reach one of your mailboxes (usually an expired app password). Open the mailbox dialog (the inbox switcher in the sidebar, or via Settings → This mailbox) and click Reconnect on the flagged mailbox; everything already imported stays.
- Plan changed: your plan was switched, with the new plan named.
Several of these (your welcome, plan changes, and storage or AI limit notices) also reach you by email. Those emails follow the language you've selected in Speudio, and update the moment you switch it.
The Upgrade button
When a notification is about something a bigger plan would fix (storage full, storage freed up, an AI budget or limit message, mailboxes paused after a downgrade, or a subscription that ended), it shows a quiet Upgrade button that takes you straight to your plan options. It only appears when there's actually a higher plan to move up to, so if you're already on the top plan you'll never see it. Other notifications just inform you; some link to the relevant screen when you click them.
